Vielen Dank ----- https://youtu.be/CWBSJ8QFtLw
This is my scooter‘s noise that is worrying me a lot. Strangely enough the knock is only audible at idle which is not expected from rod knock. Any ideas please? Mileage: 83.000 Km I would like to test if possible before opening the engine if there is some rod bushings problem. Any idea how to do? By the way, when the engine is cold then I can‘t hear the banging sound but after some minutes the banging is very loud (makes the same sound like when a car has higher than normal gear in transmission and tries to drive uphill - this "trembling of the engine" weird sound). Thanks |

Maybe its better to write in native English rather than using an awfully bad translation. Please use linguee.com (prferrred for technical items) or leo.org . Google translator mostly does a good job but for technical issues ist a pure mess! Back to your Original subject: Rod bushing in German means Pleuelbuchse and Rod bearing Pleuellager My Crystall ball would rather guess that you have a problem with worn out main bearings (crankshaft bearings), in German: Haupt bzw. Kurbelwellenlager verschlissen. The bearings themselves ("Lagerschalen") are available as a spare part but the bad news is that usually its both damaged by wear: Crankshaft AND bearings. For a mileage as yours this is not unusual; for a 200 its rather normal. ANWAY: Do not let the motor run any more at all and to give a serious diagnosis you will have to dismount it down to the crankshaft in any case. Sorry for the bad news-I am just the messenger. You can do yourself and us a favour: Please use the descriptions of the BMW spare part list https://www.leebmann24.de/bmw-ersatzteile/#!lang=&marke=BMW&mospid=51723 rather than the artificial expressions that google creates. Thanks and good luck! PS Credits to Dirk for the Leebmann24 link |

Nice video but it wont cure your problem. To fix the problem you won‘t get around disassembling your motor. So the so called "screwdriver test" is just a waste of time. A reasonable next step would be to dismount thecamshaft cover, have a first look and check cam chain and tensioner. (and the valve displacement anyway) If you find something abnormal, fix it and try out. If not you have to go all the way down to the crankshaft... Again: Good Luck!

Today I measured the oil pressure on the bike with problem AND on my second C1, which is much younger (20.000 km). Surprisingly, both were measured almost equally. I could expect slightly lower values from the 83,000 km. Briefly: Cold idle: The problematic bike starts with 0.8 and rises quickly to 3.4 bar. The other bike starts at 0.5 and rises quickly to 1.65. Strangely, the older bike has a higher oil pressure in cold idle. Warm Idle 77 degrees Celsius: Problematic bike drops at 1.65 bar / Other bike drops by 1.5 bar. Almost identical and above minimum. Warm @ 7000 rpm: Problematic bike at 3.65 bar / Other bike at 3.3 bar. Almost identical and above the minimum value. Basically, I can not tell the difference. Maybe you can explain it differently. By the way, the test with the screwdriver shows no problem. I push hard and the piston does not even move a little bit. Random Thought 1: Last thing I changed was a water pump. Maybe there‘s something wrong (but it‘s a knocking sound - not ringing or rattling). Random thought 2: Higher speeds do not worsen the knocking sound, but make it softer - if I z. For example, with 70 km / h, I swear, the sound of the engine is the most melodic, perfect. This may mean that frequency tuning can take place. Random Thought 3: The temperature should be at least 60 degrees Celsius before this bang starts. It‘s so weird that it sounds melodious when I get it cold, but when it reaches 60 degrees, it‘s annoying at traffic lights that it tells me it‘s really bad. I upload the video clips on youtube now and post later when they‘re done. ----- Today I measured oil pressure on bike with problem AND on my second C1 which is much younger (20,000 km‘s). Was denken Sie? ---- Given the fact that this takes places @ temperatures higher than 50-60 degrees, I start suspecting debris formation leading to knocking. This engine should have compression of around 14 bar and recently has risen from 15 to 15.5 bars. What do you think? By the way revving up lowers substantially the knocking sound. |

First question: Do you really compare equal things with the bikes here? Do both bikes have the same displacement /cc? Do both bikes run on the same type and brand on oil? Do both bikes run oil and filter of app the same age? Maybe you are "just" grinding the rests of your plastic camshaft chain giderail. Personally, he risk would be too high for me. Just open the Lids and check! |

So far basic conclusions: 1) it is not related to oil pressure, but temperature related (above about 50-60 degrees Celsius) 2) it gradually decreases as the speed increases.

---- I agree 100% that it "smells" connecting rod. For one million reasons. The only reason I don‘t open it yet (general rule is to not rush) is that I have this issue only when hot engine, revving up lowers the banging sound and oil pressure bahaves almost identical as with my other young (20,000 km‘s) C1. There should be some oil pressure drop I believe. |

I wouldn‘t put the blame on the valve lash- I‘d rather be concerned about the tooth offset and the history why there is an offset. Either some dummy misfixed it (naaah, so stupid??) or more/most probably a jumped over chain. What is the status of the chain tensioner? That would be the second thing to check or fix. (Congregulations as you found Problem #1, the tooth mismatch, which however is nt the source but maybe a result of the initial problem) An exhausted chain tensioner puts a good story behind the symptoms you describe. Next- get your valve displacement right (of course, even a "bavarian" camshaft hast to be put into the correct position first. IMPORTANT: Please check/replace the plastic guard rails. Have a special look at the T-formed guard between the camshaft (Part 5 "Führung" at the leebmann24 spare parts catalogue, Sheet: Motor: VENTILSTEUERUNG-NOCKENWELLE / KETTENTRIEB) Changing the Oil to 10W60 and replacing the filter would be also a good idea. Before digging deeper I would reassemble the motor and check the sound and performance.
Yes, I still think you have massive wear at one of the central bearings but maybe you have the luck that the engine still runs another couple of thousands of miles before the final burst. You seem to be the guy that drives a bike with the attitude: Its not over until its REALLY over. (We have more of this kinda guys here in the forum, gell, Phillip?)
So I wish you the best of Luck and a premium ADAC or RAC membership. Over and out.

I discovered some bad to horrible things: 1) Staples were attached to the flywheel and TDC sensor. How on earth these entered the system is very mysterious (same with ones I have in garage; my little boy threw them in oil container?) 2) Oil filter is full of aluminum paste. No idea what this is. Look at pic with filter on my gloves, the paste is on my fingers 3) Magnetic screw had a lot of black particles (very thin ones like dirt) which is peculiar given the fact that I washed it some 100 km‘s ago. 4) Timing is OK with TDC screw in place. 5) I jog the flywheel and realise that rod and crank move together and present no slack (this is the only maybe positive news) Seems one-way street that I must at least remove oil pump to check. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-Z1SzTNGGR8zIwO3YpVQzrQAq8oKfrQ6/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-xHxjWiSjOCPqI7u8eOwSAJnmnL1AlxD/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dcWxL9rWHYqzB_knsYqtZvS2QLJQZidv/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iEo4wEi3HOPbRaz-9pTHuEbCWBr4FgPL/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FZhNnnP7dnvbJQ7tWOD0PCHHKzbvI563/view?usp=drivesdk |

One last time, you have to dismantle the engine. What are you doing is wasted time. I think there is space in the connecting rod bearing and you dont see this when you move the flywheel. In this case you need a crankshaft. Why you turn out the 3 screws in the flywheel? This screws are turns out only when you will change the freewheel behind the flywheel. This screws are use a high-strength threadlocker.
You ask many questions but you dont want to learn from our help here. Good luck. Over and out! ===================================== Ein letztes mal, du musst den Motor ausbauen und zerlegen. Was du tust ist verschwendete Zeit.

---- The next step is to remove oil pump and water pump (last thing changed and close to the time the whole thing started messing with idle). Seems that at the time I changed oil during water pump change, the wire staples entered the oil and this may be related to the abnormal oil pressure behaviour (oil light flashing at idle) as well as the bad idle (crank sensor possibly affected by those staple wires attracted by the flywheel). Even all this alu paste can be a result of those wire staples grinding into the oil pump. I wonder if the chain jumped a tooth too because of this. |

--- I have two problems concurrently: 1) One has to do with low idle and also bad idle after revving down. 2) Other has to with knocking sound that accompanies this idle issue. There are 2 basic scenarios here as I see it: Scenario 1: I have F* something electronic and ECU can‘t handle well the mix. I had an electronic issue almost one year ago (kill switch cable broken around steering wheel. I bridged the cable behind the dash and removed the diodes box in the fuses box. So very likely this nice solution proved harmful in some way. Given the fact that the screwdriver test didn‘t show any bit of slack, this scenario can be tested by just swapping TDC and ECU (actually by trying them on a working bike). Easier to test than scenario two. Scenario 2: The flickering oil light that I had some months ago has slightly and gradually worn the rod bearings and since this is an early stage, the screwdriver test is not helping to identify it. Also driving eg @ 70 kmh and engine sounding healthier than ever may mean that this rod knock is just not yet pronounced enough to make the appropriate sound. This scenario can be tested by removing engine and dissasembling everything to the heart (I have done with Honda 50cc bike and it was not an easy feat especially remembering how to assemble everything back with no misses). Can someone rule out 100% the TDC sensor, ECU, oil pump or water pump possibility? Because imagine if I break the engine into 100 pieces and see no sign of wear then all this hassle will be for no reason. |

Sorry, but thats not right. You have at least three problems, the most serious being yourself. A C1 is a sensible machine where it not just maybe, but most time definitely hurts not knowing what you are doing. YouTube is not a substitute for years of experience. Go on with your own way, but don‘t expect people to waste their times attempting to help you when you are not listening. (So why are you asking anyway.) Good luck. I guess we are all out now. Btw. The only 100% sure thing in this life is that it will end some time. Opinions in a forum are what they are: opinions. It‘s all about credability and credits...
